Saran Higher College of Humanities and Technology named after Abai Kunanbayev

Saran Humanitarian and Technical College named after Abai Kunanbayev has a long and glorious history.
It began in the early 20s of the last century. The first years of the formation of the young Kazakh republic were very difficult: war, famine, devastation, and the deplorable state of public education. The first five years of Soviet power have passed. The fight against illiteracy of the population was declared in the country, and therefore there was an urgent need to train national personnel. The Kazakh intelligentsia understood this perfectly well.
By the decision of the government of the Kazakh ASSR and the People's Commissariat of Education, in order to overcome the illiteracy of the population, the District Kazakh Pedagogical College was opened in December 1922 in Karkaralinsk for the socio-political education of workers   Semipalatinsk province.

One of the initiators of the opening of the college was the first professor of mathematics of Kazakhstan Alimkhan Ermekov. A seminarian by education, a well-known teacher Rakhimbai Sapakov, was appointed head of the college. In the most difficult conditions of those years, in December 1922, 15 young men who graduated from the 4th grade of the first stage school were admitted to the college.
It was planned to open 280 schools for the population of Karkaraly county, which required qualified teachers. The task of their training was assigned to the pedagogical college.     Initially, the educational institution was allocated an unsuitable wooden barrack-type room for classes.
Through the efforts of Alimkhan Ermekov, the pedagogical college was transferred to the building of the former real school, where there was a school of the II stage with a nine-year term of study. Preparatory courses and a boarding school were opened at the college. Classes were conducted mainly in Russian. Of the 8 teachers with higher education, 4 teachers taught the Kazakh language and literature; the salary of teachers was 23 rubles 10 kopecks with an increase in food rations. The first students of the college received a scholarship in kind for 4 months: mutton and wheat.

Seifullin, "Kalyn Mal" by S. Kubeev, "Enlik Kebek" by M. Auezov. The college employed experienced teachers from Moscow, Leningrad (now St. Petersburg) and Warsaw.
In May 1926, the first graduation of the college took place, the first certificates were awarded with the title of "Teacher of the first stage" to Akhmetov Aktai, Baymakanov Abeu, Bekov Mirazis, Zhakimanov Amra, Ishukov Zein, Kalymbekov Fazil, Turganbaev Abduakas and others.
In subsequent years, the flow of applicants increased, among the students of the college in 1927, future academician Shafik Chokin, Professor Kabken Mashrapov and satirical writer Zhusupbek Altaybayev. At that time, Topai Kulkeshev took over the leadership of the college. In 1932, the college staff was headed by 21-year-old Kurman Khamitov.
The year 1935 is significant – it was then that the opening of the correspondence department with two consulting points in Kuvsk and Konrad took place. The department was headed by Zhagipar Makashev. Mukazhan Nurmaganov is appointed as the head.
